The plan proposed by regional affairs minister Francesco Boccia seeks to recruit “civic assistants” to report violations if people fail to wear masks or gather in large groups. The recommendation for the volunteer force emerged after images of busy nightlife gatherings were taken in multiple cities. The large groups without masks have raised fears that cases of COVID-19 may spike again.
