Italy became the first country in the world to cross the grim milestone of 10,000 coronavirus deaths on Saturday. Adding 756 new casualties on Sunday brings the total to 10,779 – a third of the global total.
The Civil Protection authority announced that Sunday also brought 3,815 new positives. 646 recovered on the same day, bringing the country total to more than 13,000 cured.
The number of new cases and deaths both remain elevated, but appear to be growing at a slower rate. Experts hope this indicates that the trend is falling. However, it is clear that the current lockdown will be extended.
